I spent my youth in New England. Later I ventured west and spent most of my adult life on the west coast. Now in my “third launch” I have returned to the northeast to knit together diverse threads of inspiration and experience accumulated over my life and professional career (see Services and Contact). There is a sense of coming full circle.
For nearly thirty years, my career has included positions in the fields of spiritual and palliative care in health care and community settings. Along with my professional development, I’ve maintained a parallel commitment to contemplative studies and meditation, and have worked extensively with non-profit organizations whose focus was personal growth and development through the contemplative arts. Within those organizations I held administrative and teaching roles. One of my current interests is integrating practical aspects of meditation in our work and lives, free of its spiritual context.
As a professional chaplain in hospital and hospice settings, I supported individuals and families navigating complex healthcare environments. I advocated in decision making discussions with physicians, and listened as families shared their stories – a key component of healing. I also worked closely with administration and staff, supporting individuals and teams impacted by loss and challenged by systemic change.
My training is experiential. I apprenticed for many years with experts in the meditative and contemplative arts, and in the field of spiritual care, where I received a Masters of Divinity equivalency and was board certified by the Association of Professional Chaplains.
In 2014 I attended the Hudson Institute’s Coach Intensive Training and was certified as a professional coach.
Other life accomplishments of which I am especially proud are partnering in raising two amazing daughters and being married to my wife, Marion, for more than 30 years.
I have a lifelong curiosity about the process of personal transformation and growth. I enjoy working with individuals seeking change and within corporate and non-profit settings with leaders, staff and teams.
